Poland takes the opening set.
Maciol / Szewczyk def. Biado / Roda 4–3
A hill-hill thriller. Roda’s positional error left Biado without ideal shape on the 9-ball, and that proved decisive. The set was there for the taking. Carlo was visibly frustrated, which was understandable given how close it was.
Poland moves ahead 2–0 overall.
Maciol / Wesołowska def. Roda / Rubilen 4–0
Poland closes it out to complete the sweep.
My Analysis & Thoughts
In hindsight, pairing Biado and Rubilen in the mixed doubles could have been an option, especially with Roda possibly still carrying the weight of the previous set’s missed opportunity.
Roda may be feeling some pressure in this format. On top of that, he has not been at his best to start the year, at least by his standards, based on recent results. I’ve seen comments placing the blame on him for this loss, and it’s understandable given how things unfolded. Still, the hope is that he can put this behind him and bounce back in the next match.
I’m expecting Chezka Centeno to suit up in the next match for the Philippines vs the loser of the Puerto Rico vs Great Britain match.
