Ko Pin Yi wins the 4th Univeral Chinese Taipei Open

🇹🇼 Ko Pin Yi captures his second title in as many weeks after winning the 4th Universal Chinese Taipei Open, defeating 🇵🇭 Ronel Nalaunan 13–11 in the final.

Fresh off his victory at the CTPBA Grand Finals just days ago, Ko Pin Yi trailed early at 5–2 before mounting a run to level the match at 5–5. Nalaunan stayed within striking distance, but Ko was able to capitalize on a few errors to reach the hill first at 12–10.

Nalaunan kept his hopes alive with a magnificent jump-bank on the 3-ball, followed by a full clearance to close the gap to 12–11. Breaking the next rack, the Filipino looked poised to force a hill-hill finish before overrunning position on the 6, giving Ko another opportunity at the table.

Ko Pin Yi did not waste the chance, putting Nalaunan in a difficult spot that led to a sell-out on the 6. A slight positional error from Ko briefly reopened the door, but engaging in a safety battle against one of the best in the game proved costly. A jump shot on the 7 finally sealed the rack and the championship for Ko Pin Yi.

Nalaunan delivered multiple highlight-reel shots throughout the final day of the tournament, earning new fans along the way. For those unfamiliar with “Toto Aklan” before this event, his performance ensured his name will be remembered well beyond this week.

For Ko Pin Yi, the win confirms his red-hot form to open the season. Back-to-back titles in as many weeks serve as a reminder to the pool world that he remains one of the kings of 9-ball.
