Dennis Orcollo pulled off a gritty come-from-behind win against Wu Jia Qing, 64–61, becoming the first Filipino to advance to the Last 32. It was a nostalgic clash between two giants of the early 2000s pool boom, with Orcollo proving that he still has plenty left in the tank.
Lee Vann Corteza and Baseth Mocaibat also secured their spots, but had to fight their way through the losers’ bracket. Corteza outplayed Wu Zhenyu, 77–60, while Mocaibat cruised past Fong Sim Yee, 88–23, to move on to the next round.
Also advancing to the Last 32 are defending champions Gareth Potts and Phone Myint Kyaw, the Ko brothers from Taiwan—Ko Pin Yi and Ko Ping Chung—Filipino-Canadian legend Alex Pagulayan, as well as Chinese standouts Chu Bingjie and Zhao Ruliang.
The next stage will be a single elimination format, with matches capped at a maximum of 35 frames and a 210-minute time limit.
