From January to June, the pool world delivered six months of moments that shaped the rest of the year.

The year opened in Elizabeth, Indiana, where Fedor Gorst reminded everyone exactly who rules Derby City. He swept three major titles, winning One Pocket, 9-Ball Banks, and Master of the Table in a commanding performance that immediately set the bar for 2025.

Joshua Filler matched that intensity by successfully defending his Derby City Classic 9-Ball title, winning back-to-back championships and proving his grip on the discipline remained firm.

If January was about dominance, February was about defiance. At 61 years old, Francisco “Django” Bustamante produced a run at the Jay Swanson Memorial that defied expectations.

After dropping to the losers’ bracket following a narrow loss to Can Salim, many assumed his run was over. Down 4–1 in the final rematch, Bustamante rebuilt momentum rack by rack and closed out an 11–9 victory to claim the title and the $2,700 top prize.

Denis Grabe captured the Las Vegas Men’s Open, while AJ Manas began his rise with an invitation to Premier League Pool.

March delivered one of the most complete performances of the year when Rubilen Amit won the Las Vegas Women’s Open. Battling through repeated dry breaks against Han Yu, Amit relied on elite shot-making and composure to secure a 3–1 victory and a $22,500 top prize.

Joshua Filler’s 2025 European Open run redefined statistical dominance. According to FargoRate, his event performance was graded at 961, ranking among the most dominant tournament performances ever recorded.

Off the table, Matchroom and the WPA reached an agreement, ending a conflict that had threatened to fracture the sport. Players who competed in the Hanoi Open would no longer face sanctions, and a costly legal battle was avoided.

On the table, Moritz Neuhausen won the Premier League Pool title with a dominant 7–0 final, while Jefrey Roda captured the inaugural Marboys 10-Ball Open.

April marked the start of a defining run for Johann Chua. After a heartbreaking hill-hill loss at the 99 Blackmyth Tournament, Chua rebounded by winning the Hoang Phu Tho Pool Arena Open.

Finals appearances followed one after another as he reached three straight championship matches by month’s end.

The month also featured AJ Manas defeating Dennis Orcollo in a ₱3.3 million money match, a symbolic moment in the ongoing generational shift.

Kyle Amoroto stayed hot in Indonesia with back-to-back titles, while the WPA confirmed it would sanction the 2025 UK Open.

May began predictably for the elite. Fedor Gorst collected another $40,000 payday after winning a duel against Nguyen Anh Tuan, while Mickey Krause claimed the Scottish Open.

Then Aloysius Yapp began his rampage. In the UK Open final, Yapp dismantled Jonas Souto Comino 13–1 in one of the most dominant championship performances of the year.

Back home, James Aranas and Johann Chua won the Marboys Scotch Doubles Invitational, reinforcing their chemistry as a pairing.
