The first day of the European Open Championship unfolded largely as expected, with several top-seeded players wasting little time asserting themselves as the event got underway in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Fedor Gorst delivered one of the most dominant performances of the opening day, shutting out
Mirnes Mujic 9–0 to move safely through the early stage.
Joshua Filler also looked in top form, cruising past
Jani Siekkinen 9–1 to secure his place in the knockout rounds.
Young stars also made their presence felt.
Robbie Capito joined the list of convincing winners with a 9–1 victory over
Holger Vier, while
Moritz Neuhausen produced a strong showing, defeating
Željko Škorić 9–1, further highlighting the presence of the younger generation in the field.
Meanwhile, several seasoned veterans navigated their opening matches with ease.
Niels Feijen,
Alexander Kazakis, and
Ralf Souquet all advanced with 9–2 victories.
The tournament format this year differs slightly from previous editions. Traditionally, a 256-player field would be reduced to 64 players through a double-elimination stage, with the remaining players advancing to a 64-player single-elimination bracket.
This year, however, 128 players advance from the qualifying stage before the tournament moves directly into a 128-player single-elimination bracket, reflecting the smaller field of 202 players in this edition.
